We are presently reviewing the feedback we received over the last five months to help inform a new management plan for the Rideau Canal and Merrickville Blockhouse National Historic Sites. A ‘What We Heard’ public consultation report, which presents the feedback and how it will inform the new plan, will be prepared and shared later this summer.
Please watch this website and our social media channels for an announcement of its release. Those who submitted feedback during the public consultation process will also receive direct notification.

Wake surfing and wakeboarding are two completely different sports. Some comments say “ban wakeboarding” but they are actually surfing.
Education before attacking. I grew up wakeboarding on the stretch between black rapids and Long Island island. Always being respectful of any other boaters, respect the shore line, Minimize wake, always helping where I can. Wake surfing wakes can be big yes. But wakeboarding shouldn’t be penalized or put in the same category. Kids don’t need more sports taken from them because some are uneducated on the sport. Also there are not “8 schools” trust me.

The Canal can accommodate only a limited number of visitors if its natural, cultural and historic values are to be retained.
Car camping in particular may undermine the quality of the canal experience. Avoid any theme park development. I would favour restricting developments and business opportunities to existing towns, and not allow them at the lock stations or Canal lands.

NO DUMPING!!!!
Sadly the a few residence discard their yard waste, on Parks property. This entrance to the tip to tip trail at Burritt’s Rapids is a disgrace and has gotten worse over the past 10 years. Including none biodegradable materials like three plastic plant containers. Men dug this canal by hand and at least one worker died during the build at Burritt’s .... we need help please ... familiarity breads contempt. And please maybe new signs and stand for waste bags to combat irresponsible dog owners.

Continue to allow for all water activities on the rideau river
Do not cave to the nagging selfishness of people demanding to end water sports on the rideau river. If your shore is eroding - repair it, if you cant handle waves on the waterway - launch your boat in a pool. As someone who lives on the rideau river, it is a privilege to be able to watch everyone enjoy multiple uses for the waterway. Educated don’t regulate

stop draining system before october makes boating dangerous, the shoreline is eroded. this is only done due to staffing. You want revenue??
